I was mindlessly scrolling through my social media, going through the posts I was tagged in by friends and family alike. A few of the posts caught my attention since they had one thing in common. It was not something outrageous. It was a perfume people were going gaga over.

It was an accidental meeting with someone I had an extreme dislike for. I had been gone to a restaurant near my office for lunch with a colleague when I ran into an old high school classmate. We had never had a great friendship because I hated how much he flaunted the things he bought with his parents’ money. Whether it was his new Jordan, Mercedes-Benz, or Ray-Bans sunglasses, he had to go off on a huge monologue about how he had seen the item and had to get one.

Going in for work that Monday, I had never expected to find all the staff waiting for me to arrive. I received hearty cheers and hugs from everyone. To say I was confused would be an understatement. I had no clue what had happened and what was causing everyone to congratulate me until my boss finally approached me with a white, sealed envelope. The letter inside declared me to be the new finance department manager.

After finally having gotten my degree, I was job-hunting. From small companies to multinationals, I had searched high and low for a job and had finally found success. My job interview appointment was next Monday, and I wanted to do my best to impress the interviewers.

Finally! After all these torturous years of attending classes, taking notes, and pulling all-nighters to cram for exams, it finally came to an end. I had graduated with a wide smile and a degree in my hand while wearing a ridiculously oversized gown. No matter how much I complain about having to study for 22 years of my life, it was worth it to go through all the trouble. The joyous grins lighting up my parents’ faces as I walked across the stage to receive my diploma was a sight I would never forget.

I had been thrilled when I got a call from one of my friends from college. A group of our college friends was having a mini-reunion dinner a week later, and I was invited. I had accepted the invitation in a heartbeat. It had been around five years since most of us had met one another, and it was going to be incredible getting to see them all again.
