During my lunch hour, I was scouring through various websites to find a new fragrance for myself. I ended up on Tom Ford’s official website, where a picture of the perfume bottle of Oud Wood caught my eye. Going against all my beliefs about not judging a book by its cover, I immediately ordered a 100 ml bottle for myself, entranced by the picture of the intricately crafted bottle.

Our aunt was coming for a visit. We got the news after returning from school. Our aunt on mom’s side was, in all honesty, my most favourite person in the world after our parents. I may be biased. But, our aunt has always been very loving and caring in regards to my brother and I.

The deceased Frenchman, Yves Henri Donat Mathieu Saint Laurent, was an inventive fashion designer who was regarded as one of the greatest personalities in the French fashion industry during the 20th century along with the timeless Coco Chanel. The Frenchman co-founded his eponymous luxurious fashion brand, Yves Saint Laurent (YSL), in 1961 with his fellow compatriot and partner Pierre Vital Georges Bergé.

I was mindlessly scrolling through my social media, going through the posts I was tagged in by friends and family alike. A few of the posts caught my attention since they had one thing in common. It was not something outrageous. It was a perfume people were going gaga over.

It was an accidental meeting with someone I had an extreme dislike for. I had been gone to a restaurant near my office for lunch with a colleague when I ran into an old high school classmate. We had never had a great friendship because I hated how much he flaunted the things he bought with his parents’ money. Whether it was his new Jordan, Mercedes-Benz, or Ray-Bans sunglasses, he had to go off on a huge monologue about how he had seen the item and had to get one.

After finally having gotten my degree, I was job-hunting. From small companies to multinationals, I had searched high and low for a job and had finally found success. My job interview appointment was next Monday, and I wanted to do my best to impress the interviewers.
